Welcome to Power Generators

Gen-set lineup gets major power boost

Shindaiwa Construction Products, Tualatin, Ore., has established a new top end to its line of mobile power units. With an output of 80 kW, the DGK100 generator set is the largest manufactured under the kWiet Power brand for mobile construction and rental.

"We're very happy to add this larger generator because it gives us greater flexibility in a busy segment," said Dave Dahlstrom, sales and marketing director at Shindaiwa. Until now, Shindaiwa manufactured three generator models ranging from 20 kW to 48 kW. The recent addition boosts the company's power lineup to 80 kW three-phase and 58 kW single-phase.

Powering the DGK100 gen-set is a six cylinder, direct injection, turbocharged/charge-air cooled 6.494 L Isuzu 6BG1TC diesel engine rated 150.2 hp at 1800 rpm. Isuzu Tier 2 diesels are standard on all Shindaiwa generators.

Directly connected to the engine is a four-pole, single bearing, brushless alternator wound by Shinano, a partner company of Shindaiwa. The alternator uses F-class insulation. Prior to installation, Shinano dips the coils in two varnish coats and sprays them with anti-rust and anti-fungal coatings. This treatment is intended to protect the windings for operation in extreme temperatures and humidity, the company said.

Like all kWiet Power units, the DGK100 gen-set is housed in a weather-protected enclosure that also provides a high degree of sound attenuation, the company said. At full load the sound level is 67 dB(A).

All of the generator's functions are controlled from a lockable control panel. The output panel features five receptacles with individual circuit breakers, two 120 volt single phase and three 120/240 volt single-phase. The output panel also includes terminal lugs for hard wiring connections. Output voltage is selected using the installed voltage selector switch. The voltage regulator is designed to automatically decrease its output when engine speed lessens to prevent damage to itself or the generator, the company said. In addition to the lockable control panel, the enclosure features separate lockable panels for engine and fuel access.

The DGK100 gen-set weighs 4079 lb., measures 113 in. x 39 in. x 55 in. and can be transported by its built-in top lift hook or bottom forklift pockets built into the optional sub-base tank. Also available is a towable trailer with 150 gal. double-wall or single-wall fuel tank that can be lifted off with the generator for 24 hours of continuous operation. Without the trailer, the DGK100 generator's 57.9 gal. tank provides eight hours of operation. "These are compact, adaptable units," said Dahlstrom. "Their low weight and compact size makes for economical transport and storage."
