Welcome to Power Generators

Guam airport still running on generator power

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The Antonio B Won Pat Guam International Airport is expected to return to island power tomorrow (27 September) after being on generator power since Friday (23 September).

The airport administration has said that the airport switched to generator power after a power outage that affected the entire island. The island-wide outage, which was the second this year, was caused by a breaker failure at a substation, according to the Pacific Daily News.

The power failure at the airport may have been caused by an electrical surge, which also caused a fire in the mechanical room. The terminal was almost entirely evacuated. Aircraft were however able to land safely as the outage did not affect the runway lights, which use a different power source.

It is unknown at this time how much running the generator has cost the airport.
