Hybrid Car Maintenance

Hybrid cars are a great help in preserving the environment. It is generally a more fuel efficient car with fewer emissions compared to conventional gasoline powered counterparts. They are designed to last longer and require less maintenance than other automobiles on the market.

When choosing between a hybrid automobile and a conventional vehicle, a lot of factors should be carefully considered. Consumers should research the most appropriate model based on the current requirements that he or she will have for the particular vehicle.

With the relatively less amount of maintenance required by existing hybrid cars, the initial cost of purchasing the hybrid vehicle can be eventually defrayed. So now maybe you are wondering how the hybrid designers were able to come up with this type of low maintenance vehicle.

The low maintenance aspect of the hybrid car is primarily attributed to the functionality of the hybrid generator. The generator outfitted in a hybrid car can generally take on various, multiple tasks. As you can imagine, this particular part is quite an important aspect of the vehicle.

As explained further, a hybrid car utilizes a separate gasoline powered engine apart from the electric motor. The engine found in most hybrid vehicles is generally very small. They usually range between ten to twenty horsepower compared to around fifty and up for the conventional automobile engines. With this, the hybrid engine is designed to operate within a particular speed range to reach maximum fuel efficiency.

With the generator being able to take on tasks that other parts of the car are designated to do, wear and tear is significantly reduced saving a few years worth of repair and maintenance. Since the hybrid generator is designed to have multiple functionalities, the hybrid car is able to gather energy during what is termed as gliding. Gliding significantly reduces battery usage therefore the battery in a hybrid car rarely needs to be replaced compared to conventional car batteries with a lifespan of only around one and a half to two years at the most.

Another role of the generator is brake control. Since the hybrid generator directs 80 percent of braking, brake life is extended for hybrid vehicles. Correspondingly, with the generator doing a significant portion of the brake work, chances of getting warped rotors is greatly reduced. This translates to lower incidences of brake wear leading to a longer brake fluid life with minimum chances of having the fluid contaminated due to heat build up. Ultimately, brake pads used in hybrid cards will last longer compared to conventional cars.

Hybrid cars are also designed to carry fewer automotive parts to maintain a sleek and lightweight body, primarily to increase fuel efficiency. But this also contributes to the long term savings that a hybrid owner will enjoy since parts replacement will be relatively much more manageable having to monitor and check fewer automotive parts compared to regular vehicles.

Additionally, hybrid cars do not have the regular starter found in gasoline type cars. A starter, as you know, is one of the major components that will have to be replaced over time. Without any starter, hybrid cars will encounter fewer chances of accidentally grinding the flywheel.
