Inditherm saves costs at UK biscuit factory whilst significantly reducing the carbon footprint
South Yorkshire based Inditherm plc, the provider of innovative, low voltage and cost-effective heating solutions, has achieved successful results after installing its process heating system at UK biscuit manufacturer, Fox's, based in Uttoxeter. Inditherm's low voltage carbon polymer heating systems are used in many production processes throughout the food industry to warm ingredients that require heat in order to remain fluid. The fabric-like qualities of the polymer allow it to be fitted around any shape, including bends, junctions and valves, as well as making it suitable for heating large areas, such as tanks.
Inditherm's polymer also provides even heating, with no hot spots that could damage ingredients, and temperatures can be controlled with great accuracy up to 120C.
Fox's challenged Inditherm to heat a glucose holding vessel that requires a constant temperature of 35C to ensure a consistent flow through the production process.
Inditherm designed and installed its low voltage heating jackets around this 100,000 litre vessel and also along 40 metres of associated process pipework.
Process Support Manager for Fox's, Les Alderson, comments: 'Traditionally we have used more conventional methods of heating on our pipes and vessels, these include electrical trace heating, water jackets, and oil'.
'Using Inditherm's heated jackets, however, has proved to deliver a number of significant benefits'.
'The adjustable control enables us to deliver the ingredients at the correct temperature for our requirements and the removable jackets allow us to gain easy access for routine maintenance'.
'In addition, one of our corporate goals is to reduce energy costs and the Inditherm system has lower power consumption than traditional heating technologies, thereby helping to reduce carbon emissions'.
Inditherm produces a wide range of standard and customised heating jackets which can cover almost any shape and size of pipe or storage vessel.
